Help / FAQ
this site is provided for entertainment only. you might not be allowed to skate all of the spots listed on this site. some of the spots are dangerous. skate within your ability. the info on this site is intended as a fun reference - you and only you are responsible if you get your board taken from you, break your leg, break your neck, or just have a shitty time.
This site was created and is maintained by Harry Doyle (harry@cblocals.com). I'm an unemployd web developer specializing in large scale dynamic web systems. If you'd like to see some more of my work, please see my website at cblocals.com/harry.

what is this?
this site is an index of skate spots broken down by location. site visitors can add pictures and spots to the list. it's run by harry doyle (harry@cblocals.com).
what does voting do?
voting helps us determine what people think the best sites and pictures are. in the future, we will have a top 10 list, and each spot will show the best (highest rated) pictures first. but for now, just check out your favorite spots and pics and vote on em.
how are the spot ratings generated based on votes?
using some averages and data interpolation. if a spot/pic doesn't have enough votes, the system doesn't rate it.
what does (xx / xx) mean in the spot ratings?
it is the current rating over the number of votes in the system for that spot/pic.
what do i see "N/A" on some pictures?
these pictures were typically taken outside of cb, or in somebody's basement, or in their driveway. instead of putting these in a location and making a zillion spots, i left them out, and i'm labelling them "N/A". if you see a pic that's marked n/a that shouldn't be, mail skate@cblocals.com. if you want to see all the n/a pics, click here
i see a picture that is not at the right spot
it's possible that we may have mislabled some spots. there will be a feedback/update form in the future for you to send in spot updates. for now, just mail skate@cblocals.com.
i see a picture that has nothing to do with skating!
this picture database was imported from the main cblocals picture archive. it's possible that when admins were originally adding some show pictures, they may have accidentally went into the skate category and ended up on this site. if you see one, mail skate@cblocals.com.
how can i get my pictures/spots up?
the user submission form will let you add pictures and spots.
how will picture/spot adding work?
you will fill out the picture or spot form, hit submit, and wait. a moderator will check out your submission, and if it's decent, it will be submitted. if it's non-skate related, or a really really bad picture, it won't make it in. remember to watch your spelling and grammar. i'm not perfect and i don't expect you to, but at least try to make an effort so that other people can easily read it.
there's too many pictures of harry/harry's friends/scenery on here
get your digital camera, your boys, and do somethin about that. the more different pics, spots, and people we can get on here, the better.
how do i add comments on a spot?
that feature is coming soon.
what's the news thing about
that's for harry and a couple of other people to post about skate sessions, goings on, and the progress that everybody is going to make with their video projects this summer.
will there be skating on the regular cblocals anymore?
big skate news will still appear on the site, but everything else will go here. the video will eventually get moved over, and any new skate pics will get added here and not to the main locals picture database. however, i will not be deleting the existing skate pictures/news from the main cblocals site.
i have a question that's not answered here
just mail skate@cblocals.com. harry is known to be a cranky old bastard if people don't read through this faq and then email him.
why do some sites list multiple places? like the boardwalk listing the platform, part of the civic centre, and the lip down by the yacht club? (also, super valu and the grass gap two parking lots down)
this is because i didn't want to make things confusing by adding a zillion entries and mushing everything together. my experiences in the past trying to do this didn't work out. if there is a lot of protest over some spots being merged together, i'll change it. but i think it's going to work fine as is.
for each spot, how are the pictures ordered?
they are ordered from highest rated to lowest.
this site doesn't display correctly in my browser
that's possible. the site should render ok on ie 5 or netscape 6 or better. should also work on konqueror and opera. you should be using thousands of colors or more in your display settings, and you should NOT maximize your browser if you have some insane screen resolution.
can i add new locations? your location breakdown sucks!
no, sorry. here is the breakdown and i'm stickin to it, or else things will get messy. i would, however, give good suggestions consideration for the future. here is the location breakdown:
sydney: sydney, sydney river, coxheath, grand lake road, mira road, sydport, etc. sydney and surrounding area.
northside: north sydney, sydney mines, florence, bras d'or, george's river, etc. the northside area.
nw: new waterford, river ryan, and area.
gb: glace bay and area, might include gardiner mines, and surrounding 842/849 numbers.
baddeck: just listed because there is a ton of stuff in baddeck. otherwise it would be rural cb.
phk: port hawksbury and port hastings area
rural cb: anywhere that's not the highlands, but not any of the other areas.. st peters, gabarus, louisburg, dominion, donkin, wycogomah, eskazoni, east bay, portage, etc.
highlands: north of the ferry.. north shore, indian brook, ingonish, wreck cove, neil's harbour, cape north, cheticamp, iona, margaree, etc.
where can i get more skate info?
check out the cblocals.com main site -- there is still tons of old skate news from 1997 - 2002 there.

Account Help
i signed up, but didn't receive a password
you might have put in the wrong email address. check the user list and see if you're there. if so, it might take a few seconds for you to get your email with your password. if you don't get an email after a few minutes, email skate@cblocals.com and i'll fix you up.
what is the little checkbox next to the login button?
the checkbox is a 'remember me' box. if you select that when you login, the system will remember who you are next time you come to the site.
this password is hard to remember!
once you log in, go to the 'profile' link and you can change your password there, as well as do other fun stuff.
what is the 'nick' thing for?
i was going to use it for a chat type thing in the future. but it's not in use right now.
what do you do with my email address?
absolutely nothing. it's only used internally by the system, and no other users see it. i'm not going to sell or give out your email address so don't worry.
